SONIC FIELDS

Hi there, I’m Erik.

I was born in August 1985 in Antwerp, Belgium, where I currently still live with my wife and my two kids.

Off course I’m a guitar and pedal geek, but I also love photography, travelling and climbing.

I started playing the piano at the age of 8 and guitar at the age of 11 after discovering the music from Nirvana. Soon I felt the guitar was the way to go for me, so I played for hours and hours with my ear against my tape recorder until I could play nearly every Nirvana song.

When I was 13 years old, I had my first band, called 'Earthquake', which really represented the music we played. Well, whatever... Ever since I didn't stop playing in bands and exploring new sound and different styles of music.

In my daytime job I teach music, science and technology in high school. I love my job, but around the end of 2017 I decided it was time for a new challenge. I thought it would be great fun to create my own pedal brand and repair workshop. In the summer of 2018, ‘Sonic Fields’ eventually was born. Since then I’m running my own small pedal business next to my job as a teacher.

So far, it has been a truly inspiring journey. I started by building things like amp switchers and true bypass loopers, some very effective opamp buffers and did quite some repairs and mods. Recently, I also designed two silicon Fuzz Face based pedals with some of my own tweaks to the circuit.
